The “Shukhov Tower” Foundation has appealed to the President of Russia Dmitry Anatoljevich Medvedev with the proposal of establishing in Moscow the “Museum of oil, gas and pipeline transport of Russia”. The appealing letter was signed by: Victor Stepanovich Chernomyrdin, Honored leader of gas industry and former head of the Government of Russia, Russia’s ambassador in the Ukraine, Albert Iljich Vladimirov, rector of RGU for oil and gas, Vladimir Fyodorovich Shukhov, President of the “Shukhov Tower” Foundation, Leonid Mikhailovich Shtern, corresponding member of the Russian Federation’s ATF. The appeal was supported by Nickolay Pavlovich Laverov, Vice-president of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
There are national museums of oil in the USA, Canada, Norway, Argentine and other countries. Russia is one of the world leaders in the production, transportation and refinement of oil and gas. The establishing of the Museum of oil, gas and pipeline transport of Russia is especially timely in the period of rapid economic and scientific-technical development of the country, and it will clearly demonstrate the priorities of Russia in these fields of world economy. The Museum will exhibit both the history of Russia’s oil and gas industry and pipeline transport development and modern projects and engineering in these fields. A special place in the exposition will be devoted to people thanks to whom Russia has become and still remains a leading oil and gas power – D.I. Mendeleev, V.G. Shukhov, I.M. Gubkin, N.K. Baibakov and other former and today’s leaders of the sector. Modern interactive means and technologies of the advanced domestic and foreign museum practice will be used to arrange the exposition space.
The “Shukhov Tower” Foundation suggested placing the Museum on the territory adjoining the monument of Russian avant-garde – the radio tower in Shabolovka, Moscow created by the Great engineer Vladimir Grigorievich Shukhov, who built the first Russian oil pipelines, oil storage tanks, oil refining plants, oil tank barges, pumps for oil production, dry gasholders for gas storage and other technical systems of oil and gas sector.
