Deutsch Ðóññêèé The Shukhov Tower Foundation

International Scientific Conference, devoted to the 160th anniversary of V.G. Shukhov

13-14 November 2013, Moscow, Russia

The goal of the Conference – is to encourage a full-value dialogue between artistic and technical creative work in architecture and engineering design

“Symphonic” attitude to comprehension of the technical ideas, the ability to search the ingenious methods of resolving the engineering problems allowed mechanic and engineer V.G. Shukhov to achieve the high results and to become a leader in several research and technological areas. He discovered the oil cracking principle; invented the fuel nozzle for burning black oil, that was considered a waste production before; calculated and constructed the first Russian oil pipeline; created the first in the world black oil pipeline with heating; headed the design and the construction of the first Russian dirty-oil tanker. The huge riveted metal barges were constructed according to his drawings, at that time it was a technical wonder. His achievements in design and construction of different kind of buildings and structures with use of the light metal framework, including large-span spatial retiform coverings, discovered the new possibilities of architectural formations.
